Save questions arrive in three shapes: where the file is, how to protect it, and how to skip ahead. All three are answered by the same folder, and only the Windows path is officially documented.
The path, exactly as published
C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\LocalLow\CatSociety\Dungeon Inn\SaveData
That is the path from the 1.0 launch FAQ, reproduced with the placeholder the FAQ uses. The publisher is Cat Society, which is why the folder is under CatSociety rather than the game’s name alone.
When AppData refuses to appear
AppData is a hidden folder, and a fresh Windows install hides hidden folders by default. In File Explorer, the View menu has a Hidden items checkbox; switching it on makes the chain visible.
A quicker route that avoids the setting entirely: type the path into the File Explorer address bar with your own username substituted, or press Windows+R and paste it. The folder opens whether or not hidden items are shown.
Backing up a run
- Close the game, so no file is being written.
- Open the SaveData folder.
- Copy the entire folder somewhere else — a different drive or a dated folder is enough.
- Keep the original in place; a backup is a copy, not a move.
Copying the whole folder rather than individual files matters here, because the official material does not publish the internal file names or which file holds which slot. Restoring a single file from a partial copy risks mixing two runs.
Steam Cloud has been supported since the January 2025 update, which means a local copy is not the only place your progress lives. The official notes do not describe how Cloud and local files interact on a conflict, so treat the local backup as the version you can inspect and trust.
The official jump save
The 1.0 announcement provides a save file with an S-rank completion for chapters 1 to 9, for players who want to reach the new content directly or who lost their progress. The procedure is published in three steps:
- Download the file from the linked folder.
- Place it in the save directory above.
- Choose Load Game from the title screen and continue from chapter 10.
That last step is the part people skip. The file is a save, not an unlock: nothing changes until you load it from the title menu.
The Early Access carryover
Early Access saves carry into 1.0 automatically. There is no migration step, no renamed folder, and no import menu in the official instructions. If you owned the game before release, the save is simply expected to be there.
macOS
The store lists macOS as a supported platform, but the official save guidance only gives the Windows path. Rather than publish a guess, this page leaves the macOS location open. The general shape on macOS is a user Library folder, and the exact subpath should be confirmed in your own save directory or with the developers.
What this page does not do
It does not offer to repair, merge or edit save files. The official material publishes a location and a jump save; it does not publish file formats, so instructions that claim to edit them are working from something other than official documentation.
